If your broadband seems to be on a go-slow you can run a quick speed test.
Once you’ve done the first test, disconnect all of your devices (apart from the one you’ll use to do the speed test) and run another speed test. If it’s still slow you could restart or disconnect your router to see if that helps.
What could be affecting the speeds?
Your speeds will vary by device, and how they are connected (Wi-Fi or hard-wired). Speeds will be slower on devices connected wirelessly (Wi-Fi) than if they’re plugged in with an Ethernet cable (hard-wired).
The distance the device is from your router will also have an impact, as will interference from walls, appliances, and other connected devices.
The age of your device might affect the speed it can handle. So older laptops, mobile devices and even gaming consoles will have a max limit.
Your router position can affect device speeds, too. Make sure your router has space around it, so it’s not behind a TV or in a cupboard. And position it in a mid-level spot in the room, for even signal distribution.
