What is Full Fibre Broadband?

We all rely so much on the internet in our day-to-day lives - we work from home, scroll our socials, get our shopping in, stream TV, connect with friends, and play games online. With such dependency and enjoyment tied to the internet, your choice of broadband connection matters - so you (and everyone at home) can do their thing online without frustration.

There’s nothing worse than a bad connection - so let full fibre save your sanity.

Full fibre all the way

Full fibre refers to fibre optic cables being used (for the whole of a network) to connect your home up to the internet. Fibre optics are made of tiny strands of glass (thinner than human hair!) and transmit data by light, this makes the connection fast and reliable.

I already have Fibre broadband

You might have partial fibre broadband (or better known as just Fibre). It uses fibre-optic cables to connect from the internet to street cabinets, but the final part of the connection from the cabinet to your home or business is still a copper telephone line.

This hybrid connection often results in slower speeds – in fact, the greater the distance from the cabinet to the property, the slower the broadband speed.

Full fibre broadband doesn’t have that issue, there’s no copper in the middle to slow things down.

What makes full fibre better?

Three reasons to upgrade to full fibre broadband:

Fast speeds

Our full fibre broadband is built to handle speeds from 150 Mbps up to 8000 Mbps (8 GB) so it can keep up with the demands and devices a busy online household or business have. And all our routers have the latest Wi-Fi 7 tech included as standard, which is twice as fast as Wi-Fi 6.

The median download speed for residential properties is approximately 73 Mbps. Our fastest connection (8000 Mbps) is 109 x faster than that - so you can download large files in seconds and stream high-quality 4K videos on multiple devices at the same time with no buffering.

Full fibre also allows the upload and download speeds to be the same. On a part-fibre connection the upload speed is often capped lower than the download speed. A fast upload speed means smoother video calls, less lag and lower ping when gaming, and speedy file sharing.

Reliable

Full fibre broadband can handle more data and devices without slowing down. That means you truly can rely on full fibre to keep you connected, even during busy peak hours, with a house full of devices, and even during bad weather. No buffering = no bickering!

Future-proof

Full fibre broadband is brand new, built for internet use, and to accommodate our growing demands. It’ll last longer than the copper telephone wires, which are now 140+ years old and struggle to keep up as we connect more devices and devour more data.

The current part-fibre technology will be turned off completely at some point. So upgrading now will save you any potential heartbreak when that happens.
