Your BetterTV remote has lots of buttons — here's what they all do.
Key buttons you'll use most:
**Freeview explore button: **Opens Freeview's app hub with live TV and catch-up shows.
**NetGem TV button: **Opens your My TV area—your personal space with favourites, recently watched shows, and recordings.
Record button: Records your favourite show so you never miss a thing. You'll need a live Freeview channel playing and a USB stick inserted into the back of your box. Learn how to set up recording with a USB stick.
TV Guide button: Shows the programme schedule for each channel. Channels 1-830 need an aerial, while channels 831-999 stream over your internet connection.
Home button: Opens FreeviewPlay or returns you to the main menu. Also works as an exit button.
How do I navigate around BetterTV?
Your BetterTV has different sections at the top of the screen. Use the ⏪ and ⏩ buttons on your remote to switch between them.
What's in each section?
- My TV - Your personalised area with recommendations, favourite channels, recently watched shows, and recordings.
- Extra Channels - All 130+ internet-based channels, grouped by genre (movies, documentaries, kids, etc.)
- Search - Find specific shows or movies. You can also use voice commands if you've got Alexa paired with your box.
- All Apps - Every available app, grouped by theme. We regularly add new ones, but you can't download your own.
- Games - Over 30 simple games you can play using your remote control.
- Recordings - Manage all your saved shows here.
- Settings - Your go-to for troubleshooting (missing channels, resetting your box), plus settings for recordings, display, accessibility, parental controls, and pairing your mobile app or Alexa.
