Brsk Legacy - How do I get the best performance from my BetterWiFi?

Get the best from your mesh system

Once your BetterWiFi is set up, these tips will help make sure your mesh system performs at its best.

Place your mesh nodes smartly

The halfway rule: Put your mesh nodes roughly halfway between your router and the rooms where your Wi-Fi is weak. This creates the strongest connection.

Height matters: Pop them on a shelf or table at around mid-height. Avoid putting them on the floor or way up high.

Keep them in the open: Your mesh nodes work best when they can "see" your router. Avoid putting them:

  • Near metal objects (filing cabinets, radiators, appliances)
  • Next to electronics that emit signals (microwaves, baby monitors)
  • Behind thick walls or tucked in corners
  • Inside cabinets or cupboards
What messes with your Wi-Fi

A few things can interfere with your signal:

  • Other Wi-Fi networks nearby (especially common in flats)
  • Bluetooth devices
  • Microwaves when they're running
  • Thick walls and floors
  • Large metal objects

How to avoid interference:

  • Keep your mesh nodes in open space
  • Use the 5GHz network when you can (it's less crowded)
  • Position nodes away from other electronics
Manage your devices

Each mesh node can handle dozens of devices, but if you're running lots of high-bandwidth activities at once, you might notice slower speeds.

Get the best performance by:

  • Using wired connections for devices that don't move (smart TVs, gaming consoles)
  • Avoiding too many 4K streams running at the same time
  • Placing bandwidth-hungry devices closer to your mesh nodes

Should you add more mesh nodes?

You might benefit from extra mesh nodes if you have:

  • A large home (4+ bedrooms or multiple floors)
  • Outdoor areas where you want coverage (garden, patio)
  • Stubborn dead zones even after moving things around
  • Lots of devices all streaming or gaming at once
Check how your network's doing

For Icotera routers:

Download the Icotera app from your app store and log in with your YouFibre details. Check the "Device Map" to see your connection quality—red or yellow indicators mean those devices have weak connections and you might want to move your mesh node.

For Wi-Fi 7 Brsk Boosters:

Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.1 (log in with the admin password on your hub). Head to Wi-Fi Mesh > Overview to check:

  • Signal quality between your hub and boosters
  • Which devices are connected to which booster
  • Which bands your devices are using (2.4GHz, 5GHz)
  • Devices using multi-link operation

Keep Things Running Smoothly

Once a month:

  • Test your Wi-Fi speed in different rooms
  • Check all your mesh nodes have good signal strength
  • Restart your router if speeds seem consistently slower than usual

When to contact us:

  • Red lights that won't go away after you've repositioned your mesh nodes
  • Sudden speed drops across your whole network
  • Mesh nodes that keep disconnecting even after a reset

Our support team can remotely check your network and give you personalised advice on how to optimise it.
